A Floatable and Highly Water-Durable TiO2-Coated Net for Photocatalytic Antibacterial Water Treatment in Developing Countries

A TiO2-coated net with photocatalytic antibacterial properties that purifies water for practical use in developing countries was fabricated. The TiO2 particles were modified a silane coupling agent, aminopropyltriethoxysilane or hexadecyltrimethoxysilane, to improve particle dispersibility. comprises three layers: TiO2-silicone photocatalyst layer, silicone layer protect the substrate from oxidizing power of TiO2, and polypropylene substrate. is flexible light enough float on surface water. By modifying particles, we succeeded preparing highly water-durable coating can be maintained 49 days outdoor exposure. inactivation E. coli by under 1.0 mW/cm2 UV irradiation confirmed. Furthermore, investigated natural sunlight. number decreased 320,000 10 CFU/mL sunlight just 2 h. results showed photocatalyst-coated effectively eliminates water, reducing risk infectious diseases.
